JAPANARAMA MONDAY: McDonald’s Japan stereotypes against Americans

Apparently we’re all nerds from Ohio (thanks for helping to set the nation straight, Unmarried Brother…).  This McDonald’s ad campaign is all about a bumbling nerd who mispronounces his Japanese.

Also:

Mr. James is an incoherent and painfully annoying simpleton. He stars in a number of spots in this campaign, going to McDonald’s locations all over Japan and musing about his favorite burgers. He even has a blog, on which he goes into deep background about his Ohio birthplace and about how he loves to shower foreigners with cash.

Some Americans are very offended, but you can read all the details here.

Thanks, @schellular!

In the old days, they just used Ronald, Hamburglar, Mayor McCheese in TV commercials even in Japan! http://www.japansugoi.com/wordpress/mcdonalds-japan-tv-commercials-1977-1978/
